What do you usually do whenever thoughts starts meddling inside your mind? Sometimes, we have memories inside our minds which we think about a lot, whether we want them or not. This can be quite frustrating, or either pretty fascinating for memories that feels nostalgic. I bet, you have certain memories in your mind that we usually think over and over again. For example, when you met your first love, when you made an unforgettable public disturbance, the embarrassing memories you've had, or even the happiest ones. But, what do we do with them? Do we still have to think of them over and over again? Does memories lasts forever or just until everyone around forgets about them?
I've had this group in Senior Highschool, year 2019 where our task is to produce a short film. And never in my entire life I've thought that these would be the so called 'plot twists' of the year 2019. In short span of one day, we captured memories we never thought we could make. Until such time that we're already done on our short film, it was the time we had to say goodbye to them. Each of them possess a certain characteristic where you would always remember about them. What I'm telling is, after the film we were such in awe that we don't know how to say goodbye to them, especially that we felt there is no 'good' in making ourselves go away to each other. I'm sure, that you, as a reader has this one special memory in a certain person, place or even events. It makes you remember things that will either left you feeling melancholic because as much as you want it to comeback, there is no way it could happen again. I've been seeing a lot of posts about how we should hold back to memories because that's the only thing we've got, especially if the person involved in your memory changes.
"People change, but memories doesn't."- Anonymous
"You don't know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory."- Theodor Seuss Geisel
Scientifically, we have two types of memory in our brain. Those memories that lasts longer are stored in your long-term memory, and those memories that are not necessary according to your mind will be stored in your short-term memory and you will forget about them either later, tomorrow or the other day. Those memories stored in your long-term memory are the ones that matters the most for you. You may be thinking about one of them now, because there is a reason why it was stuck in your head. Maybe, because the person involve made a difference on how your heart beats, or it can be because that person changed the way you look in life, or maybe it hurts you so much that it made you a different person. Whatever the reason is, we can't get rid of thinking about them not until you'll have amnesia. My point is, memories will exist inside of your head, whether they are good or bad, and you don't have to put so much effort in forgetting them because that would never happen. The person you once loved will always be in your memory, or even the person that made you who you are right now. Cliché as it may sound and cheesy as it may be, but the lessons that was made throughout those memories shall teach you a lesson, and those happy memories shall make you as a good person. Because those good memories wouldn't hunt you for life but it will make your bad memories justifiable, it would make your life bearable. And no, memories wouldn't last forever, they will be forgotten when we are deceased. At least, in your existence, those memories appears like magic in your mind that made you laugh out of nowhere, or cried your heart because of melancholy.
